Founder, Smith Duggan Buell & Rufo LLP (1989); Has tried over 100 civil jury cases to verdict, concentrating in product liability, aviation, commercial and art law. Faculty member The ABA-TIPS/ ABOTA Trial Advocacy Academy (2014 - Present), the IADC Trial College (2010), NITA, and multiple programs for the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education (MCLE). Member, the Supreme Judicial Court Civil Rules Advisory Committee (2012 - 2018).

Author of multiple articles regarding trial practice, and legal history. Creator of the James Otis Lecture, a free program for high school students teaching legal history and biography on Constitution Day given by leading scholars, judges, authors and lawyers. Now in its 13th year in Massachusetts, the James Otis Lecture has spread to 15 states around the country.
Selected to several prestigious, invitation-only bar associations including The American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), The International Association of Barristers, The International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC), Litigation Counsel of America and America's Top 100 Lawyers. Has served on the ABOTA National Board of Directors for 10 years and served as National Secretary in 2013 and 2014. Martindale Hubbell AV rated since 1990.
