Bio

Mr. James Wyrsch received his BA in 1963 from the University of Notre Dame, JD in 1966 from Georgetown University, and LLM in trial practice in 1972 from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He is a co-author with Judge Anthony Nugent and Susan Hunt of “Missouri Criminal Trial Practice,” Harrison Law Book Company, 1994. He is a member of the Missouri Supreme Court Procedures Committee and of the Subcommittee to Draft Model Criminal Instructions for District Courts of the Eighth Circuit. He is an adjunct professor of law at UMKC Law School, a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers; a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers; an Advocate of the American Board of Trial Advocates; a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation; a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America; and a Senior Counsel of the College of Master Advocates and Barristers. He is listed in “World’s Leading White-Collar Crime Lawyers,” Euromoney Publications; the Best Lawyers in America and the National Directory of Criminal Lawyers. He is also listed in Who's Who in: American Law, the World, Finance and Industry, America, the Midwest, Emerging Leaders in America (1st Edition, 1987/1988), and American Education; Chambers Who’s Who Legal: The International Who’s Who of Business Crimes Lawyers, and America's Leading Lawyers for Business; Chambers USA-America’s Leading Lawyers for Business; Best Lawyers in America-Criminal Defense, Corporate Counsel; both in Who's Who in Kansas City Law, and ABest of the Bar@ (Kansas City Business Journal); Top Ten, Missouri and Kansas; AMissouri and Kansas Super Lawyers,@ published by Law & Politics; and listed as a “Leading Light” in Ingram’s Magazine’s Professional Services Special Report.   Mr. Wyrsch was named a Lawyer of the Year 2001 by the Missouri Lawyers Weekly; Dean of the Trial Bar in 2002 by the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association; received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004 by the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association; Practitioner of the Year by UMKC Law School Alumni Association in 2002; received the Charles Shaw Trial Advocacy Award in 2004 (Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers); was named a KC Legal Leader of the Year in 2005 by The Daily Record; and received the Liberty & Justice Legacy Award by the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Foundation in 2007; received the Outstanding Alumnus Award, Springfield Catholic High School, 2009; named a “Local Litigation Star” by Benchmark, “America’s Leading Litigation Firms and Attorneys;” and received the Sean O’Brien Award from the Midwestern Innocence Project, 2011.  He was named a “White-Collar Lawyer of the Year (Criminal Defense)” for 2013 in Kansas City, Missouri, by Best Lawyers.  Received Lifetime Achievement Award from America’s Top 100 Lawyers (2018) and received the Albert Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who’s Who (2019).
